INTRODUCTION

The Freedonia Group Incorporated is a leading international industry study/database
company. Since 1985, Freedonia has published more than 2,200 titles covering such
areas as building materials, chemicals, health care, packaging, pharmaceuticals,
plastics, security and many other industries. Studies cover entire industry sectors
as well as key niche markets. Each study includes such valuable intelligence as
growth markets and products, market share, product analyses and forecasts, market
analyses and forecasts, and company profiles. This study analyzes the Chinese
markets for construction chemicals used in on-site applications. Products covered
include coatings and sealers, caulks and adhesives, grouts and mortars, cement and
asphalt additives, polymer flooring and other products. For the purposes of this
study, construction chemical products used in factories to assemble or finish
building components, materials and fixtures are excluded. However, cement and
asphalt additives used prior to the building materials reaching the construction
site are included. The Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau are
excluded from the scope of the study. These regions remain to a great extent
economically independent from the rest of China, even though they returned to the
People's Republic of China in the late 1990s. Taiwan, which is economically
independent from the rest of China and not under the administration of the central
government, is also excluded from the scope of this study. Historical data for 1994,
1999 and 2004 and forecasts to 2009 and 2014 are provided for construction chemical
demand in current yuan (including inflation). Demand is presented by market
(residential building, nonresidential building and nonbuilding) and by Chinese
region (for example, Central-North, Central-East and Northwest). Statistics are also
provided for construction chemical demand by type of structure (for example,
industrial, office and commercial, and other building applications in the
nonresidential segment; roads and bridges and other nonbuilding applications in the
nonbuilding segment). The term "demand" refers to "apparent consumption" and is
defined as production
(also referred to as "output" or "supply") plus imports minus exports. It is used
interchangeably with the terms "market," "sales" and "consumption." The overall
value of construction chemical expenditures is also provided in US dollars.
Generally, the official currency exchange rate is used in each year to convert
current yuan to current dollars (with the December 30, 2005 exchange rate being used
for 2009 and 2014).In addition, major construction chemical producers active in
China areidentified and profiled, and the key competitive variables are discussed.
The entire report is framed within the Chinese construction chemical industry's
economic and market environments, and therefore environmental variables affecting
construction chemical demand in the country (such as construction expenditures,
government plans and regulations, population trends and overall economic
performance) are emphasized. Construction chemical market share data by enterprise
presented in the "Industry Structure" section are estimated based on consultation
with multiple sources. Tabular details may not always add to totals due to rounding.
Economic and demographic indicators presented in this study were obtained from The
Freedonia Group Consensus Forecasts dated June 2005 and The Freedonia Group Industry
Study #1970 -- Construction Outlook for China. A wide variety of primary and
secondary sources were also used in the compilation of this report. These include
Chinese government statistical sources (principally the National Bureau of
Statistics of China, the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Construction), China
Adhesives Association, China National Coatings Industry Association, China Chemical
Reporter, Chemical Week, Industrial Paint & Powder, International Monetary Fund,
Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, United Nations, World Bank,
industry experts, financial sources, and construction chemical manufacturers and
distributors. Statistics from various sources were carefully examined during the
preparation of this study, and contradictions and discrepancies among data sources
were noted. The accuracy and reliability of figures from each source were evaluated,
and adjustments were made where deemed necessary. This was done in order to arrive
at a consistent set of industry statistics, which are based on the best available
information at the time this study was published. As a result, the data presented
here may differ, sometimes substantially, from figures issued by official
governmental sources. Freedonia Group World Industry Studies covering related topics
